Quest tracking

Show the task a player is working on with a placeholder

The quest tracker keeps track of one task per player: the one they are currently working on. Its progress line is available as a placeholder, so you can show it on a scoreboard, in the tab list, in a boss bar or in an action bar using any plugin that supports PlaceholderAPI.

%aurora_quests_tracked%

This returns the tracked task's display line from the quest config, with {status}, {current} and {required} filled in. For example, a task with display: "{status} &fMine {required} ore &b{current}&f/&b{required}" shows up as ✖ Mine 100 ore 12/100. The {status} marks come from task-statuses in menu_common.yml.

No setup is needed. Tracking is on for every player by default; just put the placeholder wherever you want to display it. The placeholder is empty when the player has no unfinished task or has turned tracking off.

How the tracked task is picked

Players don't have to choose a task. The tracker follows what they do:

  1. When a player joins, the first unfinished task from their unlocked quest pools is tracked automatically.

  2. When the player progresses a task, that task becomes tracked, unless they are already working on another unfinished task they progressed earlier. A task the player progressed always wins over one picked automatically.

  3. The tracked task stays until it is completed, even if the player progresses other tasks in the meantime.

  4. When it is completed, or its quest disappears because a timed pool rerolled, the next unfinished task is picked automatically. The tracker looks in the same quest pool first, then in the other unlocked pools. The player's next progress on any task replaces this automatic pick.

For developers

Plugins can read or change a player's tracked task and listen for tracker changes. See API.
